The Best Life Quotes from the Roosevelts

quotes roosevelt

We love a good quote. So we compiled the best life quotes from the Roosevelts to bring you some extra inspiration.

I’ll admit it – I am a quote junkie, and often silently state them in my head on any given moment when I am feeling less than exceptional (which happens more than I would like to admit).

While rummaging through my collection of random quotes, or,  as many call it, surfing Pinterest like a maniac, I noticed that many of my favorites were coined by the same family. We all know the Roosevelt’s, the iconic political family that held office from 1901-1909 (Theodore) and then again from 1933-1945 (Franklin with wife Eleanor). However I did not know that the Roosevelt family is Pinterest’s best friend fo’ life.

So, to spare you the agony of searching for hours on the Internet to find the best quotes with the best fonts and the best backgrounds and the best captions, I have decided to share them with you (how kind of me, I know).

Here we go. I hope you enjoy some of the best live quotes from the Roosevelts. And if you don’t, then boo you.

1.  Comparison is the thief of joy.

I have zero clue how a DUDE nailed this one, but you have to give kudos to Theo (yes, we’re on a nick-name basis). It’s short, it’s blunt, and it’s incredibly true. Eliminate others from the picture and you will be rewarded with a clearer and sharpened vision of your own accomplishments. You will not be disappointed–pinky swear.

 2. Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you’ll be criticized anyway.

Yes. Just…yes. Your intuition will not let you down, but others can. Trust yourself, do what you have to do, and ignore the backlash. If you choose the path of least resistance, you’ll still get pummeled.

 3. Do one thing every day that scares you.

Fear is awful. It’s also temporary. Punch fear in the face. And I mean right in the center of it’s ugly, annoying, taunting, stupid face. And do it EVERY DAY. Now, that sounds like a tall order…but in reality, I’m asking you to send the email, make that phone call, register the domain name, or ask for that favor. One at a time. It’s really not that bad, and it will probably take 5 minutes. Make it a habit to defeat fear by doing the one thing that gives you that tingly feeling of anxiety…EVERY DAY!

4. Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.

Now, naturally, brilliant minds discuss all three. This is more about a percentage break down…but Eleanor still has a point. Try to focus your conversations away from the gossip, and towards…anything else. Discussing others in a negative light only gives people permission to do the same to you. Discussing ideas can lead to collaboration, inspiration, or even better ideas. Ok, so people talking poorly about my H&M skirt (rude) or friends discussing fashion trends for next spring? I’ll take ideas, please.

5. Believe you can and you’re halfway there.

Live your life as if you are already there. You want to start your own company one day? Think as if you are doing it TODAY. Talk about it, think about it, daydream about it. Of course there are details and tasks that go into any goal accomplishment, but the mental aspect is the most important (seriously).  Plus, it’s super fun to daydream about being a ridiculously important CEO, or living in Paris speaking perfect French buying baguettes on baguettes and not gaining one pound…(or maybe that’s just me). Think it, live it, and the rest will come much easier. Oui?

6. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

If my man Theo has faith that you can meet your goals, then Ellie (too much?) has faith that you will completely own it. If you can harness the confidence that you can achieve what you want, you’ll light the world on fire. Believe in your dreams, and they’ll take on a mind of their own.

7. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift.

Don’t look back and don’t focus on what you cannot control. Instead, enjoy the moment and the fact that you are reading this fabulous blog (why thank you!). Guilt and fear are meant to be temporary emotions, so let them be. Plus, I’m pretty sure they make you break out. No thanks.

 8. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

So, this quote is perfection. And it’s not even about others making you feel bad…it’s about YOU making you feel bad. Being confident about your own relationships, dreams, and lifestyle choices is not easy, but it’s essential. It’s your safeguard from feeling three feet tall in those awful social situations everyone fears.

Ok, so you’re not engaged and you haven’t landed your dream job yet. And so what if she’s rocking that ring at her corner office suite. It’s ok to admire others, and it’s ok to get a better sense of what motivates you and what you want by noticing other’s achievements. That does not give you permission to feel bad about yourself. In fact, it should do the opposite. You are ambitious, and you are giving yourself the opportunity to think big. Go you!

Everyone has their own path, their own pace, and their own story. Don’t let someone else’s story distract you from yours! Feel good about yourself, and do not give anyone the permission to get in the way of that.

9. It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.

Life can be mean, we know this very well. However, focusing on those negative emotions can keep you stuck. Crap.

The easiest way to stop the rain is to grab an umbrella. You can’t control your boss, your teacher, your mom, or your friend, just like you can’t control the weather. You can control how you spend your time.

Don’t get soaked in the negativity–(yay puns)–step out of it and do something to make yourself feel better. Whether that’s painting your nails or writing in your Blush Journal, that’s up to you. Just light the candle.

 10. A woman is like a tea bag–you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.

Preach. Watch out, Frankie D.
